Season Starter Tips

Anthony gives some tips for the pre-season and how to prepare for season long success.

First, if you’re in a team debate event, when you find who will be your partner, you need to find something that both of you would like to talk about. You should take input from your partner because you’re both going to be saying whatever argument you choose and increase your constructive communication.

You need to practice. You need to debate. Creating strategies against yourself is important for a multitude of reasons. It builds your speaker points which is important for you as a team. You want to go through the ins and outs of your aff and test it from different angles.

You should set goals for yourself to reward yourself for hard labor in the activity. But you might not win and being ok with that is important, especially in team debate events. Setting expectations and guidelines for yourself increases accountability to yourself and to your partner.
